Ultra Running in Cold Weather

My friend J-Few just sent me this link, she grew up in Wisconsin and knows I'm planning to race there in June. The Kettle Moraine 100 is held in the same location. Of course in June it won't hit -15. A very entertaining and short read. How much is too much?

  1. This is why I stick to short distances when it is that cold! Wow, poor guy.

I am actually kind of surprised they still held the race. That very same weekend, there were some outdoor events here in the Twin Cities that got canceled on account of the cold.

  2. Whoa, that is awful. It sounds like he is doing fine now though.

  3. Yeah dude, that is TOTALLY insane. -15 degrees and running an ultra?!? Wonder how hard it is to run without a couple toes.

  4. OK, let's not lose any toes.

  5. I like my toes...and fingers...and nose, etc. That's too cold for me! Sounds like he would have been better off with snow shoes and heavier shoes/boots. But glad he's going to keep racing. Gotta love that attitude.
