Wayne Plymale getting ready to start the 6-hour event. Wayne just recently ran his first 50k - in the Philippines! Loved it, back for more now that he's home.
Amy Freund McCrea and Walter Edwards. Walter ran the 24 hour event and came in 3rd with a 108.22 miles. Amy was my ride over, the person who bought me coffee afterwards because I left my wallet and my ride back. I don't want to brag but I'm going to anyway - I have some pretty awesome friends.
It's 2011! They say time passes in the blink of an eye, so who blinked? I only have to look at the archived blog posts, the archived photo albums in Facebook and Flickr to see that it was a full year but a part of me can't believe it's already the start of a new season. Whoa, time to get back on the horse.
Last year was tough, not as great as the two previous years. There were many disappointments, things I didn't do well or failed to accomplish but there were also some pleasant surprises and things I'm proud of. So where does that leave me? With a lot of work to do like everyone else.
WHAT DIDN'T WORK
- Cutting out strength training after the winter months.
- Cutting out the spin classes, part of my training the last four years.
- Not being more disciplined about my diet (raced heavier)
WHAT WORKED
- Running with the Thursday morning run group
- Occasional runs with the Thursday run group on weekends
- Learning to run my hills during training
- Switching to shorter trail races when I felt burn out
- Transitioning to lighter trail and road shoes
Happy New Year everyone. I hope to see some of you on the trails!
Happy New Year, Rick! I hope 2011 is great to you! :)

ReplyDeleteI'm late to the party, but...Happy New Year, Rick! I really hope that I can do that CTR New Year's run to "run in" the New Year someday--it looks like a whole lot of fun (especially if it doesn't rain!). Those Xmas Relays look like fun, too! Thanks for all of the photos--great as usual. I love the "what worked/what didn't work lists. Helpful to all of us! 2011 will be a good one for you...I believe that, anyway. For a cool New Year's sunrise, see my blog I finally started--yes, finally--thanks, in part to your writing and inspiration). Wishing you well and...
ReplyDeleteKeep the spirit! Ann
I tried to post this a couple of times now, but it seemed to not even get to the "approval" page, so trying again now--sorry if it ends up to be a duplicate.

For some cool sunrise pics from New Year's and this week, see my blog--yes, I finally started one--thanks, in part to your writing and inspiration. I'll be doing training-specific posts and race reports, too--hopefully with a pic of you sometime :)--just need to have it warm up out here. You're so lucky to not have to deal with sub-30, let alone sub-20 temps!! Wishing you well and...

Yeah sorry, if you remember there used to be no approval process to leave a comment on my blog but I kept getting these weird Chinese language spam comments.
ReplyDeleteOh I have to check out the blog sometime. Thanks for the well wishes. I hope it turns out to be a good year - I'm optimistic. Not much to blog about right now though. Just training and more training.
