Back In The Game

So I didn't do jack all week last week, I mean no running, no walking, no spinning no weights, no stretching, not a single thing that can be misconstrued as athletic. Unlike Kettle Moraine where I was in training mode the moment I got back from Wisconsin, this time, having no big races left in the summer, I just took the whole week off. I may have over did the rest I think. I could have walked and did some light stretching. I could have ice bathed. Nope. I just slept, cleaned house, ate and slept some more. I was exhausted, maybe it was the added effect of the altitude but I was more tired than usual after a hundred. I did nothing and it felt perfect. It was a good break physically and mentally.

Couch potato week is done now however and I was back in training mode yesterday. I don't have any 100s left on my schedule for the year but I'd like to run some fast 50k's, I'm also planning on running Firetrails 50-miler again in October and there's a chance I will be at Quad Dipsea again in November, looking for my 6th finish there. Coming up soon though, in two weeks, is the Headlands Hundred and I just committed to pacing my friend Lem on the last 50-miles. It should be fine. We won't be screaming through those last 50 miles. He's Filipino too and I wonder if he understands Tagalog, the national language. I can draw on my grade school knowledge of the language, refreshed by countless bad Filipino movies from Netflix (think Bollywood films). I can tell jokes in Tagalog with my "American" accent. If that doesn't drive him crazy and forward I don't know what will. We'll see, I need to rent more movies to refresh my language skills.

Anyway so nothing is broken, everything is fine. I'll test the speed today at track practice. I won't be doing another 100 until I sort out the issues with the left leg. I seem to be fine for 50-miles or less and...and...I'm still finishing up the super long report for those of you that really want to read about the nitty gritty details of Tahoe Rim Trail 100. Until then...

  2. No walking? So how did you get around? You get someone to carry you? LOL I'm only playin with you! I know what you meant!

    I bet it will all come back to you. At least that's what my Mom says, but she's crazy :P

  3. I hope you enjoyed your week of rest, Rick. Sounds like you did! And it sounds like you have recovered pretty well. Good to hear. Best wishes with the rest of your "shorter" races this season! :)

  8. What about your week of indulging in ice cream, chocolate, fried foods, calories, calories, and more calories? For the benefit of all humankind, let us hope you indulged!

    I can't wait to have a big, fat pile of french fries and a milkshake in just a few days. Sigh, I almost grossed myself out. :)

  9. Hi Meghan, so after Kettle Moraine I had no big craving for the sweets, ice cream and fried foods but after this race, wow, appetite and cravings was through the roof. I ate a lot of crap! Mmm, it all tasted good and was good for the soul but I'm back to my normal diet. Still craving a lot of sugar though. Tough curbing that but yeah I had my fun with food after the race.
