Sending Good Thoughts

and good energy to the folks running the Zane Grey 50-miler in Arizona today. Another gnarly, tough 50-miler. Two good friends are running, Olga and Paulette. I've never been actually all I know about the course is from Olga's race reports and the event website. A veteran of many tough races I trust her assessment. Just got a text back from Paulette - "It sucklks". Sounds like a lot of fun already. I'll leave you with an excerpt from the event website, from the faqs section.

"8. How many water bottles will I need? Two minimum (40 oz total). Many runners use 3 bottles (60 oz total), especially between mile 25 and 33, and between miles 33 and 44. Expect to take 3 to 4 hours to get to mile 44 from 33. This is the hardest stretch."

3 to 4 hours to cover 9 miles! Sounds like a lot of tough love. I hope they are having fun.

  4. Hey Rick!

Just wanted to say it was nice meeting you and thanks for the pictures. I was pretty tired from Monday still, but it was so good to do it and the scenery was awesome. Nice race report on Diablo and great job! Happy Trails and good luck this weekend! Jessica

  6. 4hrs? Piace-o'cake. Took me 3:15, notin' bad:) It was great as usual, brutal and beautiful. BTW, this stretch is noit the most difficult, one between 23 and 33 is worse, torn splashing legs every step. Other than that - just lonely out there...but feels good once you're done!

Rick...thank you so much for your advices! I do really appreciate them all and I learned a lot from it. My next Ultramarathon is on its way this coming May 23, 2009, a 100 kms trail run, my first ever 100k trail run, I'm excited but nervous.

Your contributions to my blog will always be treasured by me.

Keep on running and blogging, as we proclaim His Glory!

    God bless.

I agree. 23 to 33 miles was not fun. Took me 2:40. Felt like Moses in the wilderness.
